Troy basketball adds former Longwood, George Washington guard for 2026-27
Jacoi Hutchinson averaged 12.3 points per game at Longwood last season
The Troy basketball program continues to reshape its roster, officially announcing the addition of transfer guard Jacoi Hutchinson for the 2026-27 season. This move, confirmed by the school on Thursday, marks another key pickup for the Trojans.
A Proven Backcourt Addition
Hutchinson, a 6-foot-3 playmaker, arrives at Troy with significant collegiate experience. Coming off a season where he started 31 games at Longwood, he posted averages of 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.4 steals. Before his time at Longwood, Hutchinson spent his first two seasons at George Washington. He enters the program with one year of eligibility remaining.
High Expectations
Troy head coach Adam Howard is eager to integrate Hutchinson into the rotation. “Jacoi is a veteran guard that we are excited to welcome to Troy,” Howard said. “He brings a mature approach and a competitive spirit that will translate from day one. He’s a proven scorer and playmaker that will contribute immediately in a big way for our program.”
Building the Roster
Hutchinson joins Robert Davis (formerly of Old Dominion) as the second transfer signing in the current cycle. The Trojans have also bolstered their ranks with freshmen Romain Valakou and Tucker Wadsworth. These newcomers will join returning veterans Kerrington Kiel, Evan Griffin, Emmanuel Clarton, and Hikaru Awata.
The infusion of new talent follows a period of transition for Troy, which saw six players enter the transfer portal following the exit of former head coach Scott Cross to Georgia Tech. Among those departures, Victor Valdes followed Cross to the Yellow Jackets, Thomas Dowd signed with Auburn, and brothers Cobi and Cooper Campbell are headed together to Liberty.
Aiming for Sustained Success
205focus.com readers will remember that Troy is coming off an impressive 2025-26 campaign, finishing 23-12 and securing back-to-back Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles. Although the Trojans fell to Nebraska in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, the addition of experienced players like Hutchinson signals the program's intent to remain a powerhouse in the Sun Belt.
