Trump hints he may refrain from ‘nasty’ remarks at rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner
The April 25th event was postponed after the shooting incident at the Washington Hilton.
Donald Trump has officially confirmed his attendance at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. The prestigious event was originally slated for April 25th but was forced to postpone following a harrowing attempted assassination of the president at the Washington Hilton.
A New Date and Venue
WHCA President Weijia Jiang, who serves as the senior White House correspondent for CBS News, announced that the dinner will now take place on July 24th at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C. Jiang emphasized the importance of moving forward, stating, “We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word, especially during a year when we are reflecting on America 250 and everything we stand for.”
Trump's Response
The president praised the decision to proceed with the event. In a statement posted to his Truth Social account, Trump said, “We cannot allow Lunatics to change our way of life, or even its scheduling.” The original postponement followed an incident where 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen allegedly tried to assassinate the president at the Hilton.
A Potential Shift in Tone
Known for his combative exchanges with the press, the president hinted that his upcoming speech might deviate from his usual style. While he did not commit to a softer approach, he teased that he may refrain from delivering his typical “nasty statements,” adding, “at least as it concerns certain people, but we will soon find out.”
True to form, Trump also highlighted his historical connection to the new venue. “In any event, it will be a ‘HOT’ ticket! Interestingly, the location will be The Waldorf Astoria, on Pennsylvania Avenue, a Building and Ballroom that I built,” he noted. 205focus.com will continue to monitor updates as the July 24th date approaches.
