Two suspects in Huntsville arson found dead on same Cullman County property in 24 hours
Both had been arrested earlier this year on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
A grim search in Cullman County concluded this week as authorities recovered the bodies of two suspects wanted in connection with a Huntsville arson. Both individuals, who had previously been arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, were found dead on the same property within a 24-hour window.
A Developing Tragedy
Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry confirmed that the body of 41-year-old Christopher Robertson was discovered on Thursday. This finding followed the recovery of 42-year-old Kristin Slayton one day earlier. According to officials, Robertson was located in a river roughly 100 yards from where Slayton was found dead.
The Investigation
The chain of events began Tuesday when the Madison County Sheriff’s Office alerted authorities that two suspects wanted for arson and drug charges were potentially in the area. A report of a structure fire—specifically a barn—near County Road 765 prompted a massive search, as the property belonged to Robertson.
The pair had been released on bond regarding their earlier conspiracy to commit murder charges, though a judge moved to revoke those bonds following allegations that they were involved in an arson at Robertson’s Hemlock Drive home in Huntsville on Tuesday.
Moving Forward
While the investigation into their deaths remains ongoing, officials have not yet disclosed the causes of death for either suspect. Sheriff Gentry praised the efforts of his team, noting that deputies and investigators worked tirelessly for 48 hours, navigating extreme heat and difficult terrain, to resolve the case.
