Woman injured in deadly wreck involving Madison County deputy seeks help and answers
Mardasha D. Woods, a mother of two, and passenger Jacques L. Whitt, 27, were both thrown from the Kia.
The family of a Huntsville woman is launching a fundraising campaign to secure legal representation as they demand answers following a weekend collision involving a Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputy that left one passenger dead.
A Devastating Weekend Crash
Mardasha D. Woods, 30, was behind the wheel of a Kia Optima when her vehicle was struck by a 2022 Ford Explorer operated by a deputy. The incident occurred at 12:27 a.m. Saturday on Alabama 53 near mile marker 323, roughly six miles northwest of Huntsville, according to reporting from 205focus.com.
Alabama State Troopers reported that both Woods and her passenger, 27-year-old Jacques L. Whitt, were ejected from the Kia. Officials confirmed that neither individual was wearing a seat belt at the time of the impact. Whitt was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Woods and another passenger were transported to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment.
Investigation and Response
Trooper Sgt. Reginal King stated that the deputy, whose identity remains withheld, was responding to a call for service with emergency lights and sirens active. An intern was present in the patrol SUV at the time of the crash. ALEA Capt. Jeremy Burkett clarified Monday that the collision did not occur during a vehicle pursuit.
Seeking Justice
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Woods, described as a devoted mother of two. The funds are earmarked for medical recovery, support for her children, and the costs associated with hiring an experienced attorney to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy.
“In an instant, a devastating accident turned her world upside down, leaving her and her loved ones facing physical, emotional, and financial challenges that no family should have to endure,” the organizers wrote. “Having an experienced attorney is critical to ensuring that Mardasha’s voice is heard and that her family receives the support and justice they deserve.”
