2 of 4 escaped Alabama inmates now back in custody
Jaden Christopher Maxwell - one of four inmates who fled the Perry County Correctional Prep Center in Saturday’s predawn hours – surrendered to authorities Sunday night, said Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Robert Turner.
Two of the four inmates who staged a breakout from the Perry County Correctional Prep Center last weekend are now back behind bars as authorities continue their search for the remaining fugitives.
The Surrender
Jaden Christopher Maxwell, one of the four individuals who fled the facility during the predawn hours on Saturday, surrendered to authorities on Sunday night. Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Robert Turner noted the cooperation involved in the arrest, stating, "His family and the community commended for arranging a peaceful surrender of Mr. Maxwell."
Midfield Arrest
Johnny Dave Harris Bush Jr. was taken into custody Sunday afternoon by Midfield police. The apprehension occurred around 4:30 p.m. after the Flock camera system alerted officers to a stolen 2012 Acura, which had been reported stolen from Selma on Saturday, traveling along the 600 block of Bessemer Super Highway. Bush now faces charges of receiving stolen property and is currently held in the Jefferson County Jail while awaiting extradition to Perry County.
The Ongoing Investigation
Marquavious Billingsley and Jaden Maxwell (not to be confused with the Jaden Christopher Maxwell who surrendered) remain at large. District Attorney Turner emphasized the commitment of law enforcement, adding, "Law enforcement agencies are working diligently to locate and apprehend the remaining fugitives to ensure the safety of our communities."
The escape, which took place around 1 a.m. Saturday, involved inmates housed at the center under an agreement with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum confirmed to Black Belt News Network that the escape was a coordinated effort involving a fake medical emergency, outside assistance, and a pre-arranged getaway vehicle.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured the entire incident, showing the inmates forcing their way past two detention officers after staging the emergency, subsequently clearing three separate fences to gain their freedom.
