50 Auburn players fans should know: This WR could be a breakout star in 2026

EDITOR’S NOTE: Between now and the unofficial kickoff to the football preseason at SEC Media Days on July 20, 205focus.com is featuring one Auburn football player per day. We continue the series today with wide receiver Jeremiah Koger.

Filling the Void

Following the departures of standout wide receivers Cam Coleman, Eric Singleton Jr., and Malcolm Simmons this offseason, the Tigers turned to the transfer portal to reload. Head coach Alex Golesh looked to his former program, South Florida, to help restock the depth chart with a handful of new weapons.

Among those imports is Jeremiah Koger, a player who might just possess the highest ceiling of the entire incoming group. Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing in at 209 pounds, Koger provides much-needed size and length to a receiving corps that saw the exits of big-bodied targets like Coleman and Perry Thompson.

From Under-the-Radar to Breakout Star

A product of Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy, Koger flew under the radar as a three-star recruit, ranked outside the top 1,000 players by 247Sports. However, he quickly proved his doubters wrong during his true freshman campaign at USF in 2025.

Koger hauled in 38 receptions for 597 yards and eight touchdowns last season. His production notably surged in the second month of the year after teammate Chas Nimrod went down with an injury, thrusting Koger into a larger role.

Proven Explosiveness

Koger’s ability to change the game was on full display in 2025. He enjoyed a career-high performance in a 41-38 loss to Navy, recording nine catches for 112 yards and a score. He also flashed elite deep-threat ability against North Texas and Florida Atlantic, logging receptions of 63 and 60 yards respectively while maintaining an average of over 20 yards per catch in both matchups.

A Familiar Connection

As a true sophomore, Koger is already expected to be a starter for the Tigers this season. He brings more than just raw athleticism to the Plains; he brings an established chemistry with starting quarterback Byrum Brown. Having served as a major target for Brown last year alongside Nimrod, Christian Neptune, and Keshaun Singleton, Koger’s familiarity with the offense could provide a vital head start for a rebuilt Auburn unit.

While the jump from the American Conference to the SEC presents a new challenge, Koger is unfazed by the skepticism surrounding the transfer group. "The media is trying to portray like we’re some Group of Five guys," Koger said. "We came here to compete. Group of Five or not, SEC or not, we came here to compete. We’re trying to show everyone that we belong here."
