The journey from Cincinnati Bengals quarterback to Birmingham Stallions head coach has been nothing short of remarkable for blank\">AJ McCarron. On Saturday, McCarron returned to his roots in Mobile for his 11th annual free youth football camp, spending the day on the turf at Mobile Christian School’s Harrison Field with hundreds of eager campers.

While the setting has evolved alongside his career, the core mission of the event remains firmly intact. McCarron dedicated himself to ensuring every attendee had the chance to catch a pass, even if it meant throwing hundreds of balls throughout the sweltering day.

\"It’s been the same since the start: Making sure every kid has the opportunity to catch a pass,\" McCarron said. \"That’s my No. 1 goal, and I don’t care how many times you got to stand there and throw it. If they dropped it, it’s not because they struggle catching, it’s because it was a bad pass by me.\"

McCarron remains a massive draw in the Port City. Saturday’s camp saw 700 registrations from nine states, including as far away as Washington. It is a testament to the status he built during his legendary tenure at Alabama, where he secured two BCS national championships, earned the Maxwell Award, and finished as a Heisman Trophy runner-up after a standout career at St. Paul’s Episcopal.

After a nine-season NFL career and stints in the XFL and UFL, the current Birmingham Stallions head coach views his path with gratitude. \"It’s definitely been an unbelievable experience,\" McCarron reflected. \"Just an unbelievable journey that I’ve been on throughout my life and very blessed, very thankful for every opportunity.\"

Engaging with the Future

The day included six rigorous drill stations and a candid Q&A session in the Mobile Christian gym. McCarron entertained the crowd with stories from his playing days, identifying his favorite college memory as completing a pass to his brother, Corey McCarron, and naming AJ Green as a standout receiver among the greats he has known.

Supported by Mobile Christian coach Charles Lawson and his staff, the event featured numerous giveaways, including UFL footballs, backpacks, and posters. McCarron stayed true to his commitment to the fans, signing autographs and posing for photos until every child—and many parents—had a keepsake from the day.
","
\"I’m just very thankful and really appreciate everybody coming out and supporting this, and it’s been a great 11 years,\" McCarron said. \"It’s hard to fathom and believe and understand how much support comes out and shows up, and it’s just really humbling and blessed to be a part of this.\""}
