Alabama baseball isn’t settling for quick trip to Omaha: ‘Let’s keep doing something special’
Rob Vaughn made clear, Alabama baseball wants to keep playing baseball.
Forget resting on laurels. For Rob Vaughn and his Alabama baseball squad, reaching the College World Series is only the beginning.
Despite the celebratory mood surrounding the program following its first trip to Omaha since 1999, Vaughn made it clear on Monday that his team is focused on the road ahead. After the Gatorade dumps and the snapshots, the mission remains firmly in sight. As reported by 205focus.com, the program is eager to build upon this historic achievement.
"They’ve etched their names in history here, which is great, but man let’s keep doing something special," Vaughn said regarding his group, which recently secured the first College World Series berth for the program since 1999.
The Road to Omaha
The No. 7 overall seed is ready to compete at Charles Schwab Field. Alabama will open against Oklahoma on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, with the game set to be broadcast on ESPN.
The path forward is defined: a victory sets up a matchup on Monday, June 15, at 6 p.m. CT against the winner of Georgia and Texas. Should the Crimson Tide fall to the Sooners, they will face an elimination game that same day against the loser of the Georgia-Texas contest.
Momentum on the Tide's Side
Familiar foes await, as Alabama played both Oklahoma and Texas earlier this season. The Tide secured a series win against the Sooners in Norman back in April, though they dropped their series against the Longhorns.
However, Alabama is currently riding a wave of momentum, boasting five straight victories in the NCAA tournament—including back-to-back wins over St. John’s to clinch the Tuscaloosa Super Regional.
Vaughn attributes this success to the unique bond shared by his players. "This group, they’ve got something man," he said. "I’ve coached a lot of teams. I’ve had some more talented teams maybe and had some more different things there. I don’t think I’ve had a team that loves each other more, that cares about each other more that meets the moment more than these guys do. I’m not ready to be done with them."
