Alabama-based chicken franchise to open another location

Wetumpka is about to get a taste of an Alabama original. Guthrie’s is officially expanding its footprint, bringing its famous chicken fingers to a brand-new location at 36 Line Drive, right across from the Wetumpka Sports Complex.

A Growing Alabama Favorite

This opening marks a significant milestone as the 35th Guthrie’s location in Alabama and the very first for the city of Wetumpka. Owners Matt Edwards and Chip Cleveland, who also operate the Prattville location, are leading the charge at the new site.

Grand Opening Details

The restaurant officially opens its doors this Tuesday. Guests can visit daily between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. The new business is also boosting the local economy by creating 35 jobs.

The grand opening comes with a major incentive for early birds: the first 100 customers to order a Guthrie’s Original Box Combo will win free food for a year—specifically, one Original Box Combo each month for 12 months. To raise the stakes even higher, 10 of those lucky guests will be randomly chosen to receive free Guthrie’s every single week for a year.

Classic Southern Fare

Fans can expect the same menu that made the brand a household name, featuring hand-breaded chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, hand-chopped coleslaw, Texas toast, and that legendary signature dipping sauce. According to Guthrie’s Franchising CEO Tom Carr, opening in Wetumpka is an exciting step for the Alabama-founded brand as it continues to grow within its home state.

A Legacy of Flavor

Guthrie’s has come a long way since its roots in the Winston County town of Haleyville. In 1965, the late Hal Guthrie Sr. started the brand as a drive-in restaurant before perfecting his famous crispy chicken fingers and signature sauce in 1978. Today, the company boasts more than 70 locations across 13 states.

205focus.com has covered the brand's steady expansion across the state, including the opening of a Hoover location earlier this March. For more on the story behind the brand, check out the history of Guthrie’s fried chicken fingers.
