Auburn baseball’s season ends with loss to Ole Miss in Super Regional

The 2026 campaign for Auburn baseball has reached its conclusion. In a heartbreaking repeat of last season, the Tigers fell at home during the Super Regionals, as Ole Miss secured a series sweep with a 5-3 victory on Saturday to punch their ticket to Omaha for the College World Series.

A Decisive Eighth Inning

The momentum shifted violently in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the game on the line, Will Furniss delivered a crushing two-run home run to give the Rebels the lead. Just one pitch later, Tristan Bissetta added insult to injury, launching a solo shot that proved insurmountable for the Tigers.

Early Opportunities and Defensives Battles

The contest began as a defensive stalemate, with both sides keeping the score clean through the first three frames. Auburn finally cracked the code in the top of the fourth when Bub Terrell laced a single that plated both Ethan Bingaman and Chris Rembert. While the Tigers jumped ahead, they ultimately left Terrell stranded on the basepaths.

On the other side of the ball, Auburn's defensive effort was stellar early on, holding Ole Miss hitless until the bottom of the fifth. Even after the Rebels finally broke the hit column, they were unable to convert, leaving a runner stranded on third.

Pitching Duel

Ole Miss leveled the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a clutch double from Judd Utermark. Auburn starter Alex Petrovic wrapped up his day with five strikeouts, handing the ball to Jackson Sanders. For the Rebels, starter Taylor Rabe put together an impressive eight-strikeout performance before giving way to JP Robertson in the eighth.

Although Sanders managed to notch three strikeouts, the two home runs allowed in the eighth proved to be the difference-maker. Walker Hooks entered to shut the door for Ole Miss; while a late sacrifice fly allowed Terrell to cross the plate and trim the lead to 5-3, Hooks ended the threat with a pivotal strikeout to secure the series win.

Next Steps

With the win, Ole Miss advances to the College World Series, where they will face the winner of the North Carolina vs. USC matchup.
