Arrest warrant issued for NFL wide receiver after viral video

An arrest warrant has been issued for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk following the fallout from a viral video. The 28-year-old athlete is now facing a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding.

The Viral Video

According to reports from ESPN and The San Francisco Standard, the warrant stems from footage posted to YouTube last December. The video captured Aiyuk behind the wheel of his Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, clocked at speeds exceeding 100 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Legal History

Court records examined by PEOPLE reveal a filing from Jan. 30 regarding the incident. Furthermore, Santa Clara County court records indicate that this is not Aiyuk's first run-in with traffic violations, with three prior citations recorded dating back to February 2021.

Aiyuk's Response

Following the online backlash, Aiyuk issued an apology for his actions. In a statement posted to his YouTube channel, he wrote: “Sorry ya’ll, my car content won’t come with speeding anymore. Was praying with my son tonight and wouldn’t want anybody else to miss out on an opportunity to do the same with their loved ones! My apologies.”

The receiver has been absent from the 49ers lineup since late last season when he was placed on the reserve/left squad list.
