Auburn men's golf is back on top of the world, winning its second title in three years
Auburn men’s golf has cemented its place at the pinnacle of the sport once again.
A Dominant Championship Performance
The Tigers captured their second national title in just three years on Wednesday, delivering a clinical 4-1 victory over UCLA at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California. The emphatic win reaffirms Auburn's status as a powerhouse in the collegiate golf world.
Setting the Pace
Freshman Jake Albert provided the spark the Tigers needed to jump out in front. Albert dominated his match against UCLA’s Tyler Loree, winning 5&3 to secure the first point of the day and set a confident tone for his teammates.
Koivun Keeps Rolling
Jackson Koivun, the star of the squad, continued his remarkable season by putting the Tigers within reach of the trophy. The winner of the Ben Hogan and Fred Haskins Award held off UCLA’s Baylor Larrabee, closing out his match with a birdie for a 4&3 victory.
"It’s been one hell of a ride with this team this year," Koivun remarked during an interview on The Golf Channel. "We’re a pretty good group of guys, and we like to have a lot of fun, and it’s starting to sink in a little bit."
Sealing the Title
With the championship on the line, freshman Logan Reilly stepped up to finish the job. Reilly sank a clutch putt for par to defeat UCLA’s Alex Papayoanou, officially clinching the national title for Auburn. Although Cayden Pope was already leading 4UP in his anchor match against Kyle An, Reilly’s victory brought the match to an early, celebratory conclusion for the top-seeded Tigers.
Following the win, head coach Nick Clinard praised the group's dedication throughout the season on The Golf Channel: "I’m just so damn proud of these guys, and how hard they work. We coach for the national championship. I tell them that in August, and just love them. I care about them. We have incredible culture, and man, war eagle."
