Country music singer responds to bear hunt criticism: ‘Do you want to go eat at Chick-fil-A?’
He took part in a 10-day hunting trip in Alaska.
Country music star Cody Johnson is firing back at the critics who took issue with his recent grizzly bear hunt. The ACM Entertainer of the Year found himself at the center of a social media firestorm after sharing photos from a 10-day hunting excursion in Alaska.
Defending the Hunt
In a candid conversation with American Country Countdown host Ryan Fox, Johnson addressed the backlash head-on. While the singer faced negative feedback online, he emphasized that local Alaskans offered a much different perspective, actually praising the effort. According to Johnson, managing predator populations is vital to preventing grizzly bear numbers from spiraling out of control.
Johnson clarified that his trip was more than just a trophy hunt. "In every way, this was not only a meat-harvesting hunt, it was a conservationist effort tag," he explained.
Addressing the Hypocrisy
The singer didn't shy away from calling out what he sees as double standards regarding the source of food and animal welfare. Pointing out the irony in the criticism, Johnson noted, "You’re never going to please everybody, but I just think that it’s awful ironic that people would say, ‘How dare you kill this poor bear, but do you want to go eat at Chick-fil-A?’”
