Country music singer trashes Donald Trump: ‘Democracy is disappearing right before our eyes’

Natalie Maines, the lead singer of The Chicks, has taken to social media with a blistering critique of Donald Trump. In a recent Instagram post, the outspoken performer did not hold back, labeling the former president a “fugly slut” while sounding the alarm on the state of the nation.

A Scathing Social Media Tirade

Maines utilized her platform to express deep frustration with current political developments. “Our democracy is disappearing right before our eyes,” she wrote in a post that has since garnered significant attention. She went on to claim that the former president is “using your gas money to pay the insurrectionists,” adding a cynical jab at social media activism by stating, “I’m sure posting selfies will fix everything.”

The singer also addressed previous moderation issues, noting, “My last post that called him a fugly slut got removed. We’ll see how long this one lasts. Repost and help the message live. Named 1M times in the #epsteinfiles.”

A History of Political Outspokenness

This is not the first time Maines has found herself at the center of a political firestorm. During a 2003 concert in London, she famously criticized then-President George W. Bush on the eve of the Iraq War. The backlash was swift and severe, leading many country radio stations to remove the group—then known as the Dixie Chicks—from their playlists, while fans publicly turned against the band.

The group, which officially rebranded from the Dixie Chicks to The Chicks in 2020, continues to navigate the intersection of music and political discourse as Maines remains unafraid to voice her opinions to her followers.
