Donald Trump reacts to Stephen Colbert’s final Late Show: ‘No talent, no ratings, no life’

President Donald Trump wasted no time chiming in following the conclusion of Stephen Colbert’s final episode of The Late Show this past Thursday.

A Blistering Send-off

Trump took to Truth Social to air his grievances, posting, “Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life.” He continued his critique, stating, “He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”

Context Behind the Curtain

While CBS announced last summer that the show would conclude after 11 seasons due to economic factors, Colbert had maintained his spot as the ratings leader in the late-night landscape. Speculation regarding the cancellation has swirled, with many observers—including the host himself—questioning if Trump’s vocal criticism played a role. Notably, Colbert did not mention the president during Thursday's finale.

The end of the show follows a $16 million settlement reached by parent company Paramount regarding a Trump lawsuit over a 60 Minutes interview. The move coincided with the company awaiting administration approval for its sale to Skydance Media, a deal Colbert once labeled a “big fat bribe.”

A Final Bit of Satire

True to form, Colbert squeezed in one last jab during his “Meanwhile” segment. When discussing a litigious music rights holder, the band struck up the “Peanuts” theme. “Oh, no, I hope this doesn’t cost CBS any money,” Colbert quipped.
