Former Auburn standout set to sign $42 million NFL contract extension

Fresh off a triumphant Super Bowl LX victory with the Seattle Seahawks, former Auburn standout Derick Hall has secured his future in the NFL. The talented outside linebacker has reportedly agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract extension with the franchise.

While the Seahawks have yet to make an official announcement, multiple outlets including the Seattle Times, the Tacoma News-Tribune, and ESPN confirmed on Monday that the deal is in place. The contract includes $21 million in guaranteed money, potentially keeping Hall with Seattle through the 2029 season.

Hall is currently playing under his initial four-year, $9.116 million contract, which he signed as a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He still has one year remaining on that rookie deal.

Rising Through the Ranks

Hall's professional journey has seen steady growth. As a rookie, he gained valuable experience, logging 307 defensive snaps and 287 appearances on special teams. After a scoreless sacks campaign in 2023, he broke out in 2024 by starting 14 games and racking up eight sacks across 674 defensive snaps.

During the 2025 season, Hall faced increased competition following the team's addition of veterans DeMarcus Lawrence and Dante Fowler. Despite seeing his playing time dip to 420 defensive snaps across 14 games, he remained a potent playmaker when it mattered most.

Super Bowl Spotlight

Hall saved his most electric performance for the biggest stage. During Seattle’s 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8, he matched his entire 2025 regular-season sack total by bringing down the quarterback twice.

His second sack was a game-changing moment, as he forced Patriots quarterback Drake Maye to fumble. The Seahawks recovered at the New England 37-yard line, eventually capitalizing on the takeaway with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to tight end AJ Barner, pushing Seattle to a 19-0 lead.
