His death comes two days after he suffered a stroke and was undergoing medical care following the medical episode.
The music world is mourning the loss of a true icon. Peabo Bryson, the Grammy-winning R&B legend celebrated for his velvet voice and contributions to some of Disney’s most iconic soundtracks, has passed away at the age of 75.
A Legacy of Soul and Soundtracks
According to a statement provided to USA Today, Bryson’s family shared that the singer passed peacefully at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, surrounded by those closest to him. His death occurred just two days after he suffered a stroke, for which he had been receiving medical care.
Bryson’s career ignited in the late 1970s, establishing him as a powerhouse in the R&B scene. He consistently found success on the Billboard R&B charts, most notably topping the list with the 1991 hit “Can You Stand The Rain.” His catalog of hits—including “Can You Stop The Rain,” “Lost in the Night,” and “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again”—cemented his status as a master of the romantic ballad.
Disney Magic and Grammy Success
For many, Bryson’s voice became synonymous with Disney magic. He teamed up with legendary vocalists for two unforgettable movie themes: “Beauty and The Beast” alongside Celine Dion and “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle. These powerhouse collaborations earned him back-to-back Grammys for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 1993 and 1994.
Remembering an Icon
In their statement, the Bryson family expressed deep gratitude for the global support received during this difficult time. “We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world,” they shared. “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”
