Alabama pastor indicted for allegedly stealing from church

A Northport religious leader is facing serious legal trouble following a lengthy investigation into the handling of church finances. Scott Willmore, the 50-year-old senior pastor of The Word Community Church, was recently indicted by a Tuscaloosa County grand jury on a felony charge of first-degree theft of property.
Investigation and Arrest
The indictment follows an extensive probe initiated after representatives from The Word Community Church approached the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office with concerns regarding the management of church funds. Sgt. Josh Hastings confirmed that investigators spent months conducting interviews and meticulously reviewing financial records before bringing the case before a grand jury.
Willmore was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Monday at 9:34 a.m. He was released shortly thereafter at 10:42 a.m. following the posting of a $30,000 bond.
The Legal Stakes
While authorities have not disclosed the specific total amount of funds involved in the case, first-degree theft in Alabama is categorized as a Class B felony. Under state law, this charge is applicable when the value of the property in question exceeds $2,500.
