U.S. House bill would provide $16.5 million for north Alabama infrastructure projects

North Alabama is set for a major infrastructure boost. U.S. Rep. Dale Strong, R-Monrovia, announced this Monday that the U.S. House is slated to vote on a spending bill that includes $16.5 million in federal funding dedicated to regional projects.

Investing in Future Growth

The allocation is part of the FY27 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill, which prioritizes national assets ranging from highways and railroads to spaceports. As a member of the Appropriations Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee, Strong highlighted the importance of these funds in keeping regional infrastructure in sync with North Alabama’s rapid economic expansion.

"As north Alabama leads in growth, innovation, and economic opportunity, I am committed to ensuring our infrastructure investments keep pace with that success," Strong stated in a recent news release. "I am proud to advance targeted investments for north Alabama that reduce traffic congestion, support our growing communities, and speed the delivery of transformational transportation projects."

Broad Impact Across the Valley

The proposed funding package aims to address several critical needs across the region. According to the announcement, the investment will support improvements to key roadways throughout Lawrence, Morgan, and Madison Counties, while expanding major transportation corridors in Huntsville, Madison, and Decatur.

Beyond roadways, the legislation includes provisions to enhance infrastructure at the Huntsville International Airport and bolster long-term energy reliability through investments in a new natural gas pipeline. Strengthening the Tennessee Valley’s foundation remains a primary focus, according to 205focus.com reporting.

Key Projects Slated for Funding

The legislation specifically earmarks capital for several high-priority transit initiatives, including:

  • Northern Bypass
  • Blake Bottom Road
  • Wall Triana Highway

"I will always work to strengthen the Tennessee Valley’s infrastructure, support continued economic growth, and improve quality of life for the families, workers, and businesses who call North Alabama home," Strong added.
