Huntsville OKs $8.5 million in 60 paving, sidewalk projects

Huntsville is moving forward with a significant infrastructure push, as the City Council recently greenlit two major contracts totaling approximately $8.5 million. This investment will pave over 60 city streets while ensuring all accompanying sidewalks meet modern Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

Boosting City Infrastructure

These latest projects represent the second phase of the city’s 2026 fiscal year resurfacing initiative. According to City Administrator John Hamilton, the city typically executes three to four phases annually to keep up with maintenance needs.

Under the approved plan, Rogers Group secured the residential street resurfacing contract for $4,985,450. Meanwhile, Lambert Contracting LLC has been tapped to manage the necessary concrete improvements and ADA upgrades, a project valued at $3,465,877.

A Comprehensive Approach

Hamilton emphasized that the city’s strategy goes beyond just laying down new asphalt. By linking the repavement program with concrete work, the city is committed to fixing pedestrian infrastructure, including curbs, wheelchair ramps, and essential drainage systems.

"Sometimes there are inlets and stuff that need to be rebuilt," Hamilton explained to the City Council. "We are looking at all of things associated with the street, not just the asphalt for the cars, but also the curbs and the drainage systems, the sidewalks and wheelchair ramps as well." In many older neighborhoods, the city is installing completely new ADA-compliant ramps where none previously existed.

Where to View Project Lists

Residents can review the full list of streets, curbs, and sidewalks slated for improvements during this second phase by visiting the 2026 Phase 2 Resurfacing and Concrete/ADA Upgrades schedule.

This follows the first phase of the program, which was awarded in December. That initial effort, covering more than 50 residential streets, included contracts for Grayson Carter & Sons Contracting LLC ($2,925,660) and Lambert Contracting LLC ($3,862,950). The documentation for the 2026 Phase 1 Resurfacing and Concrete/ADA Upgrades remains available for public review.

With these projects underway, 205focus.com notes that Huntsville has boosted its total 2026 resurfacing budget by $500,000, bringing the total investment to more than $18.8 million for the year.
