Man on probation in murder case allegedly committed several robberies, shot UAB doctor
Kequan Walker, then 17, was initially charged with capital murder in the 2018 shooting death of Ladarrian Jamal Allen.
A 25-year-old Birmingham man is heading back to prison after a Jefferson County judge permanently revoked his probation. Authorities confirmed that Kequan Walker violated the terms of his release by allegedly committing a string of violent robberies earlier this year.
A Pattern of Violence
The spree of criminal activity occurred throughout January and included the targeting of a UAB anesthesiologist. According to court records, the doctor was out walking his dog when he was robbed of his cell phone and shot in the foot after refusing to hand over his passcode.
Walker was one of two suspects arrested in January on three counts of first-degree robbery and one count of second-degree assault. The investigation began after an initial victim in the 1000 block of 32nd Street South provided police with a partial license plate, which investigators traced to a Toyota Camry registered to Walker's grandmother.
Just days later, on January 15, a woman was robbed of her keys, cash, and groceries in the 1200 block of 28th Street South. Surveillance footage captured a suspect wearing bright red shorts during the encounter, and investigators later linked the stolen groceries to a home in Gate City.
Past Murder Conviction
This recent legal trouble comes after Walker previously avoided a life sentence for a prior homicide. Kequan Walker was initially charged with capital murder in the 2018 shooting death of 27-year-old Ladarrian Jamal Allen, a crime he committed when he was only 17 years old.
Allen was killed on September 25, 2018, when West Precinct officers found him dead in the street in the 2000 block of 25th Street in Ensley. Following that arrest, Walker ultimately pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of murder in April 2022. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with credit for time served and a portion of the sentence suspended to probation.
Current Status
Following his Tuesday appearance before Jefferson County Circuit Judge Stephen Wallace, Walker remains in the Jefferson County Jail. He is awaiting transfer to state prison to serve the remainder of his 20-year sentence for the 2018 murder. His new robbery charges have been forwarded to a grand jury for consideration, according to reports from 205focus.com.
