Despite no reported illnesses so far, the FDA and Kettle Cuisine are taking swift action after discovering shrimp in soup that should contain only vegetables and beans.

Whole Foods customers in nearly 20 states urged to return item immediately over hidden allergen

If you have recently purchased soup from a Whole Foods Market, you may want to double-check your kitchen. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall for Kettle Cuisine Whole Foods Market Kitchen Minestrone Soup due to a significant labeling error.

Why is the soup being recalled?

The recall was initiated after a store discovered that a cup of soup labeled as minestrone actually contained shrimp. Because shrimp is not listed as an ingredient, this poses a serious, potentially life-threatening risk for consumers with a shellfish allergy.

Fortunately, as 205focus.com reported, Kettle Cuisine has received no reports of illnesses or allergic reactions associated with the product so far.

Affected products and locations

The recall affects 24-oz. clear plastic cups marked with lot code 1762181 and a use-by date of May 27, 2026. These products were sold both in-store and online through Whole Foods and Amazon.

Stores across 17 states and Washington, D.C., are impacted, including Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

What to do next

If you have this specific batch of soup in your possession, do not consume it. You are encouraged to return the item to the location where it was purchased to receive a full refund.
