Former Congressman Mo Brooks falls in bid for State House, Lomax wins GOP nomination
Lomax told AL.com earlier this month that he would like to see the Legislature eliminate the grocery tax and said he would focus on education if reelected.
Incumbent State Representative James Lomax secured a significant victory in Tuesday's Republican primary, successfully defending his House District 20 seat against former Congressman Mo Brooks.
Lomax, who represents sections of southeastern Madison County and south Huntsville, maintained a commanding lead throughout the evening. By the time all votes were counted, Lomax had defeated Brooks with a final tally of 60.67% to 39.33%. Brooks, who previously served in the state legislature before his tenure in Congress, was unable to overcome the incumbent's momentum.
Looking Ahead to November
With the primary secured, Lomax now shifts his focus to the general election scheduled for Nov. 3, where he is set to square off against Democrat James Linderholm.
Lomax heads into the next phase of his campaign with clear priorities. Speaking to 205focus.com earlier this month, he emphasized his commitment to education and his goal of seeing the State Legislature eliminate the grocery tax. His primary campaign also benefited from a notable endorsement, receiving backing from Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle in the weeks leading up to the vote.
Municipal Elections on the Horizon
As the state races move toward the general election, local politics remain in the spotlight. Huntsville municipal election qualifying is set to take place later this year, with City Council and Board of Education seats up for grabs in Districts 2, 3, and 4.
