Missouri-based steel producer acquires Alabama company

A major shift is coming to the regional steel industry. Missouri-based steel manufacturer Bull Moose Tube Co. has officially announced its acquisition of Hoover-based Hanna Steel Corp., a landmark Alabama company with deep roots in the state.

Strategic Expansion in the Steel Sector

While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of this year. Once finalized, Hanna Steel will integrate into Bull Moose as a specialized division. Bull Moose, which was founded in 1962 and operates under the Caparo organization, currently runs seven U.S. manufacturing facilities serving industries such as transportation, commercial construction, and fire protection.

A Legacy Reaches a New Chapter

Hanna Steel has a storied history in Alabama, dating back to 1954 when it was founded by Gen. Walter J. Hanna. Initially focused on manufacturing road signs for the state, the company evolved into a powerhouse in the steel products sector. The firm's legacy is tied to the late Pete Hanna, the founder's son and a longtime industry leader who died last year at the age of 88.

Future Operations

Headquartered in Hoover, Hanna Steel maintains an impressive footprint, including a coil-coating facility in Fairfield, a tubing operation in Tuscaloosa, additional tubing facilities in Pekin, Illinois, and the Hanna Truck Line (HTL). Bull Moose CEO John Krupinski highlighted that the deal provides a strong strategic fit, noting that Hanna brings complementary assets, an experienced workforce, and a culture that aligns with Bull Moose's long-term growth objectives.

Jill Cunningham, vice-chair of Hanna Steel, expressed optimism about the transition. “This allows us to pair our legendary commitment to consistency and customer service with Bull Moose’s impressive scale and quality,” Cunningham said. Brown Gibbons Lang & Company served as the financial advisor for Bull Moose during this transaction. For more updates on Alabama business news, continue following 205focus.com.
