The NFL's current offseason landscape features a heavy dose of Alabama flavor. Across the league's 32 teams, there are 240 players who honed their skills at Alabama high schools and colleges, accounting for more than 8 percent of the total roster space available in the NFL.
As franchises move into the final phase of their offseason programs, most of the groundwork—ranging from free agency and the draft to reserve/future contracts and undrafted signings—is complete. Every team across the league currently houses at least three players with roots in the state.
Top Destinations for Alabama Talent
The Philadelphia Eagles lead the league in Alabama representation, carrying 14 players with ties to the state. Other teams heavily utilizing Alabama talent include the Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks, each with 13, followed by the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots with 11. Both the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders round out the top tier with 10 players apiece.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Minnesota Vikings currently hold the fewest players with Alabama high school or college experience, listing three on their offseason roster.
Breakdown by Institution and High School
The collegiate contingent is led by the University of Alabama with 100 players, followed by Auburn (48), South Alabama (14), and Troy (13). Additional programs represented include Jacksonville State (six), UAB (five), and three each from Alabama A&M, Alabama State, and Samford.
High school pedigree is also well-represented, with 92 NFL players hailing from Alabama prep programs. Sixty-five different high schools have alumni currently on NFL rosters, with Central-Phenix City, Hewitt-Trussville, and Hoover leading the state with four players each.
Positional Depth
The 240-player contingent spans every position on the gridiron, led by 58 defensive backs and 39 wide receivers. The rosters also include 31 defensive linemen, 29 offensive linemen, 22 linebackers, 17 edge rushers, 15 quarterbacks, 14 running backs, eight tight ends, three kickers, two punters, one fullback, and one long snapper.
