50 players Alabama fans need to know: This injured WR’s return could spark offense
Alabama football suffered a major injury loss on A-Day.
EDITOR’S NOTE: As we count down the days to the SEC Media Days on July 20, 205focus.com is highlighting one key Alabama football player every single day. Today, we turn our attention to wide receiver Noah Rogers.
Player Profile
Noah Rogers: 6-foot-2, 201 pounds, Raleigh, N.C.
A Crucial Piece of the Puzzle
Heading into the final stretch of spring practice, Alabama appeared to have its wide receiver corps locked in. Even with the departures of Isaiah Horton and Germie Bernard, the outlook remained bright. Lotzeir Brooks was pushing for a starting role, and Rogers—a transfer arrival from NC State—was poised to make waves alongside Ryan Coleman-Williams.
However, momentum hit a snag during the A-Day scrimmage. Rogers went down in the end zone after a catch attempt, eventually requiring a cart to exit the field. The aftermath delivered a tough blow to the roster, as it became clear the playmaker would be sidelined for the near future.
The Road to Recovery
Head coach Kalen DeBoer addressed the situation with Tide 100.9 back in April. "Unfortunately, he suffered an injury that’s going to take a little while to recover," DeBoer said. "It will lead into the season a little bit."
In the interim, the Crimson Tide must lean on emerging talents like Rico Scott and Cederian Morgan to carry the load. Yet, the expectation remains that when Rogers returns to full health, he could provide a significant spark to the back half of the schedule.
Adding a New Dimension
What makes Rogers such a valuable asset is the physical profile he brings to the field. With neither Ryan Coleman-Williams nor Lotzeir Brooks boasting elite size, Rogers provides a necessary counterpunch. While both Coleman-Williams and Brooks possess the high-end talent to become stars in the SEC, Rogers offers that distinct ability to win contested balls and provide a vertical presence that the team utilized heavily last season with Horton.
Looking Ahead
Rogers is no stranger to the big stage. After spending his freshman season at Ohio State, he spent two years at NC State, where he finished as the Wolfpack's third-leading receiver with 33 catches for 441 yards and two scores last season. A former four-star high school prospect, Rogers maintained that status in the transfer portal, where 247Sports tabbed him as the No. 15 wide receiver available.
While his early-season absence is felt, the potential for his return provides optimism for the offense down the road.
