Pentagon awards $1.2 billion contracts, Lockheed gets $879 million
Projects include supplies for F-35 fighter jets and guided missile destroyer ships.
The Pentagon announced a massive surge in defense investment on Monday, awarding $1.2 billion in contracts distributed among nine different companies. 205focus.com is tracking the details of these significant military procurement developments.
Lockheed Martin Secures Major Funding
Lockheed Martin emerged as a primary recipient, securing $897 million through two separate awards. The largest portion of this funding is earmarked for aircraft armament equipment, including gun systems, missile launchers, bomb racks, pylons, and adapters designed for the F-35 fighter jet fleet. These jets are currently operated by the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and several international allies.
The financial backing for this ambitious project is a collaborative effort: $207 million is provided by the Navy, $199 million by the Air Force, and a substantial $472.8 million contributed by foreign military partners. Lockheed Martin is slated to finalize this work by February 2030. Additionally, the contractor received a separate $17 million contract to provide spare parts for an unnamed foreign partner, with an expected completion date of May 18, 2027.
Fleet Upgrades for Guided Missile Destroyers
In other procurement news, the Pentagon announced that Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. has been awarded $23 million to provide essential components for the Integrated Bridge Navigation System. This technology will be utilized within guided missile destroyer ships.
Operations for this contract will be centered in Charlottesville, Virginia. According to the Pentagon, the work is scheduled for completion by November 2027.
