Pihakis Restaurant Group faces eviction lawsuit over shuttered Birmingham office
It's the fourth lawsuit filed in connection with the restaurant group.
The Birmingham-based Pihakis Restaurant Group is facing mounting legal pressure as the company deals with its latest court battle.
New Eviction Lawsuit Filed
101 Parkside has initiated an unlawful detainer action against the group concerning the property located at 101 12th St. S., Suite 300, in Birmingham. The address serves as the company's headquarters, which have remained shuttered for several weeks. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Jefferson County District Court, alleges a breach of a commercial lease agreement after Pihakis failed to vacate the premises following a lease termination notice.
While the claim does not specify a dollar amount, this marks the fourth lawsuit hitting the embattled restaurant empire. Previously, the company was tied to three lawsuits involving more than $1 million in unpaid bills and liens from developer Michael Mouron totaling over $12.6 million.
Restaurant Closures and Transitions
The recent legal trouble follows a chaotic period for the organization, which began closing restaurants on April 12, starting with the permanent closure of Tasty Town Greek Restaurant and Lounge.
Despite the instability, four restaurants associated with the group are remaining open under new ownership structures:
- Full Circle: The space previously known as Hero Doughnuts & Buns, founded in 2016 by chef Wil Drake, has reopened in Homewood under the new brand.
- Salice: Formerly Luca Lagotto, the Homewood spot continues with Chef Rita Bernhardt as operating partner and founder.
- Little Donkey: The Homewood restaurant successfully changed hands to continue operations.
- Magnolia Point: This Southside dining destination intends to keep serving its Gulf-centric cuisine.
Meanwhile, pitmaster and chef Rodney Scott recently expressed his intent to reopen his own restaurants following the collapse of the broader group's operations.
