Quirky Alabama cocktail bar named one of the best bars in America
The cocktail bar features themed tables, a poetry corner and drinks named after regular customers.
A whimsical Birmingham destination has officially earned national bragging rights. The House of Found Objects was recently spotlighted by Esquire magazine as one of the “Best Bars in America” for 2026, gaining widespread recognition for its eclectic atmosphere and one-of-a-kind energy.
A Birmingham Original
Located at 2205 Second Avenue North, the bar is the brainchild of celebrated bartender Feizal Valli. Since it first opened in 2022, the spot has become a local staple. Valli is no stranger to the spotlight; he previously co-owned The Atomic Bar & Lounge, a celebrated venue that racked up multiple James Beard Award nominations before closing its doors in 2021.
Why It Stands Out
Esquire author Beth Ann Fennelly perfectly captured the bar’s chaotic charm, describing it as a mix between a “seventies retro happening” and a “futuristic fun house.” Far from a place to sit quietly, the space is designed to provoke and amuse. Guests can enjoy unique features like the Elvis Table—equipped with six jumpsuits—a poetry corner with a manual typewriter, and a photo booth that projects images onto the back bar to spark conversations among strangers.
The community-driven vibe is even reflected in the menu. Drinks are frequently named after regulars, leading to a surreal experience where the namesakes themselves might deliver your order. As Fennelly noted, while the bar is packed with interesting objects, the true draw is the sense of community found within its walls.
