The battle for the Class 7A state softball championship has been put on hold. After a gripping contest between rivals Hewitt-Trussville and Thompson, the Alabama High School Athletic Association was forced to halt play as heavy storms rolled through Oxford late Thursday night.
Championship Halted in Final Frame
Hewitt-Trussville sat just one out away from securing the state title, holding a narrow 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With a runner on first and two outs, a sudden thunderstorm struck Signature Field at Choccolocco Park at 11:26 p.m., leaving the diamond unplayable and complicating efforts to secure the tarp.
Resumption and Schedule Changes
According to the latest update from the AHSAA, the championship game will resume at 9 a.m. Friday at Jacksonville State’s Jana McGinnis Field.
