Woman out on bond in alleged murder plot and wanted in house fire found dead; man still at large

A North Alabama investigation has taken a tragic turn in Cullman County, where a woman wanted in connection with an arson investigation has been found dead.

A Fateful Search

Kristin Slayton, 42, and 41-year-old Christopher Robertson were previously arrested in Madison County earlier this year on charges of conspiracy to commit murder. Both suspects were out on bond when authorities allege they participated in a barn fire on Hemlock Drive in Huntsville this past Tuesday. Following the incident, a judge revoked their bonds, which stipulated that they were to avoid any further criminal activity while awaiting trial.

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry reported that his office was alerted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday that the two suspects, who were wanted on arson and drug charges, might be hiding in Cullman County. Deputies and investigators converged on a property near County Road 765—an area where Robertson reportedly held ownership—after a structure fire was reported nearby.

Manhunt Continues

During the search of the property on Wednesday, deputies discovered Slayton’s body. Authorities have not yet disclosed her cause of death. Meanwhile, Christopher Robertson remains at large, and a statewide lookout bulletin has been issued to locate him.

"The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office will maintain a high visual presence in the County Road 765 area," Sheriff Gentry stated. "We do not anticipate the other suspect returning to this location. However, we will maintain a high patrol presence with marked and unmarked cars for community safety."

Madison County Sheriff Kevin Turner emphasized the critical cooperation between law enforcement agencies throughout this ongoing investigation. "Investigations often require extensive coordination between agencies, and that’s exactly what has taken place in this case," Turner said, adding that his detectives remain in constant contact with Cullman County officials.
