Recent Violence in Birmingham
This tragedy is part of a violent stretch in the city. The shooting occurred just 48 hours after a mass shooting left two people dead and five others wounded. Additionally, on Friday, two men engaged in a shootout at an extended stay motel, resulting in one death. In that instance, police confirmed no charges will be filed.
While police have noted a recent decline in homicides citywide, the events from Thursday through Saturday mark a difficult turn. Davis is the 21st homicide victim in Birmingham this year.
Moving Forward
Officer Freeman addressed the recent surge in violence, stating, “Over the past few days, we’ve had homicides, we’ve seen things happen and we do want to emphasize that we are going to continue working to reduce crime, and do everything that we can to mitigate any issues in the city of Birmingham.”
