4-star in-state defensive back updates recruitment after Big Cat visit
Big Cat Weekend saw Auburn move up the list of this blue-chip, in-state prospect
Jayden Aparicio-Bailey is gearing up for his senior season at Prattville High School, standing tall as one of the nation's premier safety prospects. The four-star recruit is currently ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 134 player overall and the ninth-best safety in the country.
A Surge in Recruitment
Measuring in at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, the versatile athlete has the skill set to play either corner or safety at the next level. Recently, he was among a group of over two dozen prospects who attended Big Cat Weekend at Auburn. For Aparicio-Bailey, the unique atmosphere of the event was a game-changer.
"I feel like Auburn was always one of my top schools," Aparicio-Bailey noted, adding that the coaching staff significantly bolstered their standing during the visit. "I feel like they helped themselves a lot this weekend."
Proven Versatility
Aparicio-Bailey’s pedigree on the field is well-documented. Before his move to Prattville this spring, he showcased his talents at Oak Mountain High School as both a defensive back and wide receiver. His junior year was particularly impressive, as he recorded 40 tackles, four interceptions, four pass deflections, and a forced fumble. Offensively, he added 13 receptions for 256 yards and two touchdowns to his resume.
The Battle for an In-State Star
As a local prospect, Aparicio-Bailey is no stranger to the Plains. Having already visited for a spring practice, he has an official visit scheduled for June 12 to continue his evaluation of the Tigers. He described the Big Cat Weekend experience as "amazing" and highlighted a clear message from the Auburn staff: they want to keep him in the state.
"You can tell everybody in the building loves Coach [Alex] Golesh, no bad things about Coach Golesh," Aparicio-Bailey said regarding the program's leadership.
Despite 26 total offers, the recruiting battle is intensifying. While Georgia and Clemson are pushing hard—with official visits slated for May 29 at Clemson and June 5 at Georgia—Auburn has firmly positioned itself in the mix. With a long summer ahead, the Tigers' strong showing at Big Cat Weekend has made them a major player in this recruitment.
"They have a strong chance," Aparicio-Bailey concluded. "Georgia and Clemson are pushing hard, but I feel like Auburn helped themselves this weekend."
