50 players Auburn fans should know: This DL transfer could earn a big role

EDITOR’S NOTE: As we count down to the unofficial start of the preseason at SEC Media Days on July 20, 205focus.com is highlighting one key Auburn football player each day. Today, we turn our attention to defensive lineman Cody Sigler.

6-foot-2, 302 pounds | New Hope, Alabama

The success of the Auburn defense often hinges on the performance of its interior line. As the Tigers work to retool that group via the transfer portal, Cody Sigler has emerged as arguably the most critical acquisition of the cycle. An explosive force in the middle, Sigler offers the versatility to disrupt opposing backfields in a variety of ways.

A Proven Path to The Plains

Sigler’s road to major college football was anything but conventional. A native of New Hope, Alabama, he cut his teeth over three productive seasons at the Division II level with West Alabama. His 2024 breakout campaign included 37 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and six sacks, earning him first team All-Gulf South Conference honors and a jump to the FBS level with Arkansas State.

Last season, Sigler continued to turn heads, recording 35 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and five sacks, which landed him on the All-Sun Belt second team. When he entered the transfer portal, he drew significant interest from SEC programs, ultimately choosing Auburn over Alabama and Mississippi State.

An Experienced Presence

While Sigler is one of five newcomers on the defensive front, he brings a wealth of experience that stands out among the group. Although he is preparing for his first taste of SEC competition, his track record at multiple levels has allowed him to quickly step into a leadership role. After frequently taking first-team reps during spring practice, he is poised to be a significant contributor when the season kicks off this fall.

According to Pro Football Focus, Sigler recorded 31 pressures and 23 stops—defined as tackles that result in an offensive failure—during his time at Arkansas State. His 302-pound frame paired with that kind of disruptive potential has the coaching staff excited about his transition.

If you ask head coach Alex Golesh, Sigler has already acclimated well to his new surroundings on The Plains.

“That dude wants to be here, he wants to be really good. He continues to show up in our high-effort tape in the team meetings,” Golesh said during the spring. “Cody is what you want defensively.”
