Alabama country star sets another rare record on the pop charts

Alabama country star Ella Langley is etching her name into music history, achieving a chart milestone reached by only about two dozen artists in the history of pop music.

According to Billboard, the Hope Hull native currently holds both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the Hot 100 pop singles chart. Her hit “Choosin’ Texas” is in its ninth nonconsecutive week at the summit, while her follow-up single “Be Her” has climbed to the second position. This feat makes Langley the first woman known for country music to simultaneously hold the top two pop singles in the nation.

Breaking Rare Ground

The achievement is so rare that only one other country artist has ever secured the top two spots. That was Morgan Wallen, who locked up the entire Top 3 a year ago. Langley is now the 27th act overall to achieve the one-two double, joining an elite list that includes The Beatles, who lead the pack with 10 weeks at the top.

While Langley’s success has drawn comparisons to legends like Dolly Parton and Beyoncé, neither of those stars ever held the No. 1 and No. 2 spots at the same time. Other elite artists on the list include OutKast, Drake, and Taylor Swift, who famously occupied the entire Top 10 in 2022 and later held the Top 14 spots in 2024.

Multiple Chart Dominance

The success of “Choosin’ Texas” extends well beyond the Hot 100. The track has spent 24 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. As of Monday, it also marked its 10th week as the No. 1 Streaming Song and its sixth week leading the Digital Song Sales chart.

Langley is also making waves with a third song in the Top 10. Her new duet with Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” debuted last week at No. 8.

Broad Chart Presence

With the full Hot 100 chart dated May 16 set for release this Tuesday, Langley’s influence continues to spread. In the previous rankings, she also held the following spots:

  • No. 36: “Loving Life Again”
  • No. 53: “Bottom of Your Boots”
  • No. 57: “Dandelion”
  • No. 92: “Broken”
