Alabama meteorologist leaving for New Orleans TV station: ‘Birmingham, it’s been real’

A familiar face is moving on from the Birmingham broadcast scene. Jordan West, a meteorologist at WVTM 13, announced this Wednesday that he is departing the station after a two-year run.

A New Chapter in New Orleans

West shared the news with his audience, noting that this Friday will be his final day on the air in central Alabama. Since joining the team in 2024, West has become a staple for viewers tracking everything from severe weather threats to calm, sunny afternoons.

“For the last two years, it has been an absolute honor tracking storms and breaking down central Alabama’s active weather for you,” West said. “From long nights covering severe weather to beautiful, sunny afternoons, thank you for trusting me and welcoming me into your homes. To my incredible colleagues and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for making this chapter so unforgettable.”

According to the 205focus.com reporting team, West is headed to the Crescent City to join WDSU, a sister station to WVTM 13. He is scheduled to begin his new role on June 15.

From Alabama Roots to the Big Easy

A native of Mobile and a proud graduate of the University of South Alabama, West brought significant regional experience to Birmingham. His resume includes a stint as a weekend meteorologist in Macon, Georgia, prior to his arrival at WVTM 13.

As he prepares for the move to New Orleans, West reflected on his time in the Magic City. “While I am thrilled for this next adventure, a piece of my heart will always stay right here in Alabama,” he said. “Thank you all for the support, the kind words, and for trusting me over the years. Birmingham, it’s been real. New Orleans, I’ll see you soon!”
