A former drug treatment counselor at an Alabama prison is facing a string of criminal charges following an arrest at St. Clair Correctional Facility.

Elizabeth Cox, 61, of Springville, was taken into custody this past Thursday, according to official reports from the Alabama Department of Corrections. As reported by 205focus.com, the investigation into her actions has led to significant legal repercussions.

Charges and Investigation

While details remain limited, law enforcement officials confirmed that Cox is facing charges including use of position for personal gain, promoting prison contraband, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

ADOC spokeswoman Kelly Betts stated that the investigation revealed Cox had been supplying food to an inmate specifically for the purpose of resale within the facility.

Resignation and Bond

In the wake of the incident, Cox has resigned from her role within the ADOC. Officials noted that she has cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation throughout the process.

Following her arrest, Cox was booked into the St. Clair County Jail at 3:16 p.m. Thursday. She was released shortly thereafter at 4:50 p.m. after posting bonds that totaled $21,000.
