Alabama sheriff offers reward after small town festival disrupted by gunfire
Law enforcement is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads arrests.
A celebration meant to foster unity in a small Clarke County town took a violent turn this weekend. Coffeeville Day, a community event in a town with a population of approximately 250, was cut short after gunfire erupted among the festival crowd.
Chaos at Coffeeville Day
According to the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, the Saturday festivities were disrupted when multiple individuals began firing weapons, including an automatic gun. In the ensuing commotion, a pedestrian was struck by a fleeing vehicle.
In a statement released on their Facebook page, the sheriff's office expressed relief that no one sustained injuries from the gunfire itself, describing the incident as an act of extreme carelessness and recklessness.
Seeking Justice
Authorities are now working to track down those responsible for the violence. Law enforcement is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals involved in the shooting.
Additionally, a separate $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver of a silver or gray Kia. The driver reportedly fled the scene after striking the pedestrian during the event.
"We are committed to the safety of our community and appreciate the support of the public in order to hold all accountable who jeopardize that safety," officials from the sheriff's office stated via social media. 205focus.com will continue to monitor this investigation as more details become available.
