Arrest made in deadly Bessemer stabbing on bus full of security guards
Pierre Seymour Eskew, 35, of New Orleans, is charged with murder, attempted murder, menacing and possession of marijuana.
A violent stabbing incident aboard a charter bus has resulted in murder charges against a 35-year-old New Orleans man. The altercation, which took place in Bessemer, left one person dead and two others injured.
Charges Filed Following Bus Tragedy
Pierre Seymour Eskew of New Orleans is facing a serious list of charges, including one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, three counts of menacing, and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. He is currently being held without bond pending an Aniah’s Law hearing.
The victim, 22-year-old Darryel Sutton of New Orleans, was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital at 1:59 p.m. on Monday. Among the survivors, one individual remains in critical condition following surgery, while another is recovering from minor injuries.
Incident Overview
Bessemer police and fire units responded to the scene at the Walmart parking lot on Academy Drive around 1:13 p.m. Monday. Investigators determined the stabbings occurred during a fight that broke out in the back of the bus. The vehicle was transporting 40 employees of Fess Security back to Louisiana following their weekend work at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee.
While the bus driver attempted to intervene and break up the disturbance, they were not injured during the struggle. Following the incident, a second bus was utilized to transport the remaining security guards back to Louisiana.
Police Investigation
Authorities apprehended Eskew shortly after the incident near St. Aloysius Catholic Church, located just two blocks from the scene. The investigation is being spearheaded by Detectives D. Stewart, D. Smith, and J. Washburn.
“Detectives Stewart, Smith, and Washburn have worked tirelessly from the moment this investigation began,” said Sgt. Chris Selman. “This case involved multiple victims, numerous witnesses, and an extremely active scene. Their response reflected the professionalism and dedication required in a case of this magnitude.”
