Emergency crews rushed to the scene Thursday night as a significant fire broke out at Hollywood Outdoor Living in Vestavia Hills. The blaze ignited just before 11 p.m. within a storage area located behind the business along U.S. 31.

Hazardous Response

Due to the presence of potential hazardous materials, firefighters from Vestavia Hills, Hoover, and Rocky Ridge were dispatched to battle the flames. Witnesses reported hearing loud popping noises throughout the duration of the incident.

Authorities, including Vestavia Hills police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies, acted quickly to close off Highway 31 between Massey Road and the Red Roof Inn. As a safety precaution, any individuals in the immediate vicinity were evacuated.

Containment and Cleanup

Crews successfully brought the fire under control, ensuring the damage was contained strictly to the outdoor storage area. The business showroom remained untouched by the flames. While a strong odor of chlorine lingered in the area, officials reopened the highway once the fumes dissipated.

Environmental protection was also a priority during the response, as firefighters worked to prevent water runoff from entering nearby Little Shades Creek, a vital tributary of the Cahaba River.

The original report confirms that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
