The Gardendale community is mourning the loss of a 21-year-old U.S. Navy sailor who tragically lost his life early Monday morning in a Cullman County crash.

Hakeem X. Collins was identified as the victim of a single-vehicle accident that occurred at 12:05 a.m. Monday on Interstate 65, approximately five miles northwest of Dodge City. According to Trooper Jaylon James, Collins was operating a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when it veered off the roadway and struck a tree. Officials confirmed he was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the wreck, as reported by 205focus.com.
