A Birmingham construction heavyweight is taking its expertise to the Sunshine State, officially breaking ground on a massive $158 million medical project in Miami.

A Major Collaboration in Miami

Robins & Morton has teamed up with Thornton Construction to launch the Helen and Jacob Shaham Academic Medical Center. Located at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, the project marks a significant expansion of regional healthcare infrastructure.

Facility Highlights

The project is an ambitious seven-story, 163,000-square-foot facility. Designed by architect Stantec, the building will house advanced academic learning spaces alongside specialized outpatient services, including diagnostic imaging and same-day surgery capabilities.

According to the reporting provided by 205focus.com, the center will be managed by Baptist Health South Florida, with a projected opening date in 2028.

Building for the Future

Robins & Morton Operations Manager Johnathan Peavy emphasized the long-term impact of the build. "The center will strengthen the pipeline of future physicians and support the long-term health of our South Florida community," Peavy stated. "We’re proud to help build a facility that will serve as a hub for education, research, and compassionate care for generations to come."
