Summer temperatures arrive in Alabama this week: How hot will it get?

Summer is making an early debut in Alabama this week. Even though meteorological summer doesn't officially kick off until June 1, residents should prepare for sweltering conditions as temperatures surge toward the 90-degree mark.

Peak Heat Early in the Week

Monday and Tuesday are shaping up to be the hottest days of the week statewide. The National Weather Service expects temperatures today to hit the upper 80s and low 90s, with most of the state remaining dry. Tuesday is tracking to be just as hot—potentially even a degree or two warmer in certain spots—while continuing the dry trend.

Rain Chances on the Horizon

While rain chances are low to start, relief is on the way. The forecast shifts by Wednesday as precipitation probability increases, bringing a better shot at showers and storms that will persist through the upcoming weekend. By Wednesday, a significant portion of Alabama can expect a good chance at rainfall.

What to Expect Through the Weekend

Good news for those tracking severe weather: the Storm Prediction Center has removed the Level 1 severe weather risk that previously targeted northwest Alabama for Tuesday. There is currently no severe weather in the forecast for the next seven days.

The incoming rain will help temper the heat in northern Alabama, where highs should settle into the low to mid-80s from Wednesday onward. Conversely, central and southern Alabama will keep things toasty, with temperatures holding in the mid-80s to low 90s through at least Friday.

If you're looking for the best chance for widespread moisture, circle Saturday on your calendar. All of Alabama will have a chance for rain, though once again, the highest probability is anticipated across the northern part of the state.
