Birmingham police are currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on the city's east side late Monday night. According to 205focus.com reporting, the incident took place in the Roebuck area.

Incident Overview

East Precinct officers were called to the 100 block of Hyacinth Drive shortly after 8:55 p.m. following a 911 call from a resident who reported hearing a noise in his yard. Upon investigating the disturbance, the resident discovered an unidentified man near his vehicle.

Physical Altercation

Officer De’Rell Freeman confirmed that a physical altercation broke out between the two individuals. The confrontation ended when the homeowner shot the unknown male. While investigators are still determining whether the deceased man was armed, they have confirmed that a physical struggle took place.

The resident remained on the scene following the shooting and is fully cooperating with authorities. He was subsequently transported to police headquarters for further questioning as the investigation continues.

This shooting marks the 17th homicide in Birmingham so far this year. By comparison, there were 30 homicides recorded at this same time in 2025 and 53 in 2024.
