Donald Trump reacts to Stephen Colbert’s final Late Show: ‘No talent, no ratings, no life’

President Donald Trump wasted no time chiming in following Stephen Colbert’s final broadcast of The Late Show on Thursday night.

Trump's Sharp Critique

Taking to Truth Social, the president pulled no punches regarding the host’s departure from CBS. "Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life," Trump wrote. He went on to describe the host as being "like a dead person," adding, "You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!"

The Context of the Cancellation

While CBS announced the end of the show last summer, citing economic reasons after an 11-season run, the move has been the subject of ongoing speculation. Despite being a ratings leader, there has been widespread skepticism regarding the influence of the president’s repeated public criticism of the program. Trump himself did not mention the show’s legacy during his comments on Thursday.

The shutdown followed a high-profile landscape shift: parent company Paramount reached a $16 million settlement regarding a lawsuit brought by Trump over a 60 Minutes interview, all while the company awaited federal approval for its sale to Skydance Media. Colbert famously referred to the situation as a "big fat bribe" on air.

A Final Bit of Humor

Colbert kept his signature wit until the end. During a "Meanwhile" segment, he referenced litigation surrounding music used in "Peanuts" specials before the band immediately began playing the theme. "Oh, no, I hope this doesn’t cost CBS any money," the host joked.
