Former Alabama defensive back loses roster spot with New Orleans Saints
The NFL team waived four players to sign Cameron Jordan and three from the UFL.
The New Orleans Saints have officially parted ways with former Alabama cornerback Dashawn Jones. The move comes just one day after the team wrapped up its offseason program.
Roster Shakeup in New Orleans
Jones, an undrafted rookie who originally signed with the Saints back in May, was waived on Thursday as part of a series of roster adjustments. The Saints utilized the open spots to bring back veteran Cameron Jordan and add three standouts from the United Football League.
Before entering the NFL ranks, Jones spent his final two collegiate seasons at Alabama following a three-year stint at Wake Forest. Following the 2026 NFL Draft, he had signed a three-year, $3.115 million contract that included $30,000 in guaranteed money and a $15,000 signing bonus.
New Additions and Looking Ahead
In addition to Jones, New Orleans also cut ties with defensive tackle Coziah Izzard, wide receiver Damien Alford, and kicker Mason Shipley. To bolster the roster, the Saints signed veteran pass-rusher Cameron Jordan, kicker Tanner Brown, quarterback Hunter Dekkers, and wide receiver Jalen Moreno-Cropper. Brown, Dekkers, and Moreno-Cropper arrive in New Orleans after competing in the 2026 UFL season for the Louisville Kings and Houston Gamblers, respectively.
The team is now turning its attention toward training camp, with the first practice scheduled for July 29 at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center in Metairie, Louisiana.
