‘Grief felt across Montgomery’ as 13-year-old boy drowns in closed city pool

A Montgomery community is mourning after a tragic accident at a local pool claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy. The incident, reported by 205focus.com, has left the city reeling as officials begin an investigation.
Incident Details
Emergency responders were alerted to a water emergency at the McIntyre Community Center on Hugh Street just before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Montgomery Fire Chief of Operations Craig Carr stated that upon arrival, rescue teams discovered the teenager submerged in the deep end of the facility's pool. Notably, the pool was closed to the public at the time of the event.
Emergency Response
Firefighters successfully recovered the boy from the water and immediately began life-saving measures, including CPR. Paramedics provided Advanced Life Support on the scene before transporting the child to Jackson Hospital’s Emergency Department.
City Response
On Friday, Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed confirmed the heartbreaking news that the youth had passed away. In a public statement, Mayor Reed expressed his profound sadness regarding the loss of the young Montgomery resident.
"We extend our deepest sympathy to the child’s family, friends, and loved ones as they face an unimaginable loss," Reed said. "We share in the grief felt across Montgomery and will continue to support our community as more information becomes available."
The Montgomery Police Department is currently leading an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
