How Alabama softball completed 3-game shutout in Tuscaloosa Regional

Alabama softball is putting the rest of the college softball world on notice. The Crimson Tide successfully navigated the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional without surrendering a single run, solidifying their dominance on the diamond.

This flawless defensive run has punched Alabama's ticket to the NCAA Super Regionals for the 20th time, an achievement that stands as an NCAA record. "They dominate," coach Patrick Murphy said regarding his stellar pitching staff.

A Perfect Path to Victory

The Tide (52-7) secured their spot in the next round with a convincing 9-0 victory over USC Upstate at Rhoads Stadium on Sunday. Alabama’s regional run began with a decisive win over USC Upstate on Friday, followed by a hard-fought victory against Belmont on Saturday, where the offense squeezed out three runs against Bruins ace Maya Johnson.

Freshman pitcher Vic Moten was electric in the championship game, tossing six shutout innings. She allowed only one hit, struck out five, and did not issue a single walk, punctuated by a highlight-reel barehanded grab.

Offensive Fireworks

The Alabama bats came alive early once again against the Spartans. In the second inning, Audrey Vandagriff broke the scoreless tie with a two-run homer to left field. By the third, Jena Young joined the party with a two-run shot to right, followed immediately by a solo blast from Brooke Wells to extend the lead to 5-0.

Regarding Young’s big day, Murphy joked, "I asked Jena where she got her power from today, and she said she had a good breakfast. She needs to repeat that the rest of the year."

Although USC Upstate relief pitcher Ashlyn Brown managed to stall the Tide through the middle innings, Alabama’s offense erupted again in the seventh. A timely RBI single from Salen Hawkins and a second home run from Young pushed the final margin to 9-0, ensuring the Crimson Tide head to the Super Regionals with immense momentum.
