Huntsville International Airport sets a new record: ‘Well-positioned for continued growth’

Huntsville International Airport has officially reached new heights, logging the busiest month in its history this past May.

Record-Breaking Traffic

The airport served a total of 173,748 passengers in May, marking a 10.7% surge compared to May 2025. This performance fuels a strong start to the year, with passenger volume through the first five months of 2026 showing a 7.6% increase over the same period in 2025. This latest milestone follows a third-straight year of record travel for the facility.

Community-Driven Growth

Officials at the Port of Huntsville attribute this momentum to travelers across the Tennessee Valley choosing the convenience of flying local. Joey Ceci, board chair for the Port of Huntsville, credited the community for the success, noting that sustained passenger demand encourages airline partners to continue investing in the market and expanding service offerings.

Service Expansion

The airport’s growth is reflected in its recent service updates. Allegiant has introduced new nonstop flights to Gulf Shores (GUF), marking its fourth destination from the city. Additionally, Breeze Airways has scaled up its operations to include daily service to Orlando (MCO), a major hub for leisure travelers.

Looking Ahead

Butch Roberts, CEO of the Huntsville International Airport, emphasized that the airport is well-positioned for future success as long as residents continue to prioritize local travel and competitive fares. Currently, HSV provides nonstop service to 18 U.S. destinations, and leadership is actively pursuing further opportunities to enhance flight options for the region.
