Huntsville OKs $8.5 million in 60 paving, sidewalk projects

Huntsville is moving forward with a significant infrastructure push, as the City Council recently greenlit two major contracts totaling approximately $8.5 million. The investment is set to overhaul more than 60 city streets, prioritizing both road resurfacing and essential sidewalk improvements to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Boosting City Infrastructure

These contracts represent the second phase of the city’s 2026 fiscal year resurfacing strategy. City Administrator John Hamilton noted that Huntsville typically executes three to four such phases annually to maintain and upgrade its transit network.

Under the approved plan, Rogers Group secured the contract for residential street resurfacing at a value of $4,985,450. Meanwhile, Lambert Contracting LLC was tapped for $3,465,877 to lead the necessary concrete improvements and ADA accessibility upgrades.

A Holistic Approach to Roadwork

Hamilton emphasized that the city’s repaving program is designed as a comprehensive update. By linking street resurfacing with concrete and infrastructure work, officials ensure that every street receiving new asphalt also benefits from updated pedestrian facilities, including curbs and wheelchair ramps.

The project extends beyond the road surface, with crews also evaluating and rebuilding drainage systems where necessary. According to Hamilton, this effort is particularly vital in older neighborhoods, where some areas currently lack any ADA-compliant ramps, requiring entirely new installations.

Tracking the Projects

Residents can review the full list of streets, curbs, sidewalks, and drainage systems slated for work in the second phase by visiting the city's 2026 Phase 2 Resurfacing and Concrete/ADA Upgrades documentation.

The city’s 2026 resurfacing momentum began in December with the approval of its first phase. That initial round included work on more than 50 residential streets, with Grayson Carter & Sons Contracting LLC handling the paving and Lambert Contracting LLC managing the ADA and concrete portions. Details on the 2026 Phase 1 Resurfacing and Concrete/ADA Upgrades are also available for public review.

With a $500,000 increase, the city has expanded its total 2026 resurfacing budget to more than $18.8 million, ensuring consistent growth in local infrastructure quality.
